Bedding specialists are generating two-thirds of their total bedding sales with innerspring bedding models, including hybrid sleep sets. Furniture stores are generating a slightly higher percentage of their bedding business with innerspring beds, at 69%, according to Furniture/Today’s Retail Bedding Survey, conducted this year.

Bedding specialty stores are doing a much better job of selling sleep accessories than are their furniture store counterparts, a Furniture/Today Retailer Bedding Survey reveals.

The survey found that mattress and box spring sales account for 81% of total bedding sales by bedding specialists, with add-on accessories like pillows and other soft goods accounting for another 12% of total bedding sales. Other revenues, including those from bed frames, headboards, metal beds, futons and delivery service fees, bring in another 7% of total bedding sales.

Responding retailers operate more than 1,900 stores. The majority of respondents either rank on Furniture/Today’s Top 100 U.S. Furniture Stores or are listed on the Beyond the Top 100. Included in the mix of retailers answering the survey are furniture stores and bedding specialty stores.
