Wal-Mart is offering free two-day shipping on more than 2 million items with no membership fee required, according to a new release. The world’s largest retailer again is taking aim at Amazon by offering free shipping with a $35 purchase of food and household items, electronics, toys, baby, pet and personal care products. Items must be ordered by 2 p.m.
The new program replaces Wal-Mart’s ShippingPass, a $50 annual membership program that offered free three-day shipping. That ill-fated initiative, intended to compete with Amazon Prime, was introduced in July 2015. Current members will receive a refund, according the Walmart Today blog.
“Two-day free shipping is the first of many moves we will be making to enhance the customer experience and accelerate growth,” said Marc Lore, president and CEO of Walmart U.S. eCommerce, in the release. “In today’s world of e-commerce, two-day free shipping is table stakes. It no longer makes sense to charge for it.”
Wal-Mart also offer same-day pickup in stores and free grocery shopping services at more than 600 locations including Supercenters in Coral Springs, Pompano Beach, North Lauderdale, Lake Park and West Palm Beach.
