New app allows scanning, paying for products via phone
Utah grocer Macey’s is giving customers the opportunity to skip checkout lines by using their mobile phones to scan and pay for items via a new dedicated mobile app.
Skip Checkout, the new app, can be downloaded from the App Store for iOS phones or the Google Play store for Android phones. After setting up a free account, Macey’s shoppers simply scan their items as they’re placed in the cart. Once they have everything they need, shoppers simply pay for the purchase directly from their phones using a linked debit or credit card, or the Apple Pay or Android Pay mobile wallet apps, and exit the store via the Skip Checkout lane, where they can bag their groceries.
“We’re excited to offer Skip Checkout and know that it will make shopping at Macey’s even happier,” said Ashlee Johnstun, customer relations manager for Macey’s. “It’s going to save time and free up the team to better serve our guests.”
Macey’s currently provides Skip Checkout at locations in Lehi, Orem, Provo, Spanish Fork and Pleasant Grove. The retailer also offers Macey’s Anywhere online shopping and curbside pickup at all locations.
Based in Salt Lake City, Macey’s operates 12 stores in Utah. It’s a member of cooperative Associate Food Stores, based in the same city.
