It seems like almost every day, another analyst is writing an obituary for the retail industry, pointing to another wave of store closures.
But there are at least 20 retailers bucking the trend and adding stores instead of scaling back their brick-and-mortar operations.
The empty spaces left behind by RadioShack, Payless, Sears and more are being retrofitted and gobbled up by discount retailers and other stores.
This list shows the retailers adding storefronts as others close doors to focus more on web sales.

20. ThredUP – 5 stores
The San Francisco-based online consignment shop has a distribution center in Mechanicsburg and is opening five stores this year, focusing on Texas and California.

19. Forever 21 – 10 stores
The store known for its trendy clothes at low prices already has multiple locations throughout Pennsylvania. It wasn’t immediately clear if the new stores will be in the state.

18. Nordstrom – 17 stores
It wasn’t immediately clear if the luxury retailer plans to grow its footprint in Pennsylvania.

17. Macy’s Backstage – 19 stores
This Macy’s outlet already has four locations in Pennsylvania: Harrisburg, Philadelphia, Monroeville and North Wales. The company hasn’t said if it will add more in the state.

16. Bonobos – 20 stores
The online fashion house for men and subsidiary of Wal-Mart said is adding nearly two dozen stores, but it’s unclear if they will expand in Pennsylvania.

The members-only club is adding 24 locations in the U.S., but it’s unclear if any are in Pennsylvania.

11. Hobby Lobby – 60 stores
The arts-and-crafts retailer’s expansion includes Pennsylvania. Hobby Lobby plans to open a store at 5074 Jonestown Road in the Colonial Commons shopping center where Giant used to be.

10. H&M – 60 stores
The trendy fashion retailer already has locations in Pennsylvania, including at Capital City Mall. The company hasn’t announced whether the latest expansion will include this state.

9. Sephora – 70 stores
The Paris-based chain of cosmetics stores is expanding in the U.S. It isn’t immediately known whether stores will be added in Pennsylvania.

The discount department store is adding locations in California, Florida and Texas. It’s unclear if stores will be added in Pennsylvania.

7. Five Below – 100 stores
The discount chain is opening a Philadelphia store as part of its expansion. Most of its other new stores will open in California, Florida, New York and Texas.

6. Lidl – 100 stores
The German supermarket chain is adding 13 locations in Pennsylvania: Dover Township, Erie, Lancaster, Philadelphia, Pottstown, Royersford, Spring Garden Township, Springettsbury Township, Stroudsburg, Uniontown, Whitehall Township, Wilkins and Wilson.

The beauty products retailer hasn’t announced where it’s adding 100 stores or remodeling 13 locations.

4. TJX – 111 stores
The parent company of T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods and more hasn’t announced where its expansion stores will be located.

3. Aldi – 400 stores
The discount grocer hasn’t announced all of its expansion plans yet, but it has leased space at 4700 Jonestown Road in Lower Paxton Township. Aldi recently opened locations in Mifflin and Lebanon counties, and last year it remodeled a store in Swatara Township.
2. Dollar Tree – 650 stores
The discount retailer has not provided granular details about its expansion plans.
