MONROE, Mich. – La-Z-Boy will build a 16,000-square-foot store in Union Township, Ohio, part of its plan to grow and reformat its retail segment.

Groundbreaking is slated for early October and the opening for March 2018, a company spokesperson said. The corporate-owned store will total 15,810 square feet.

La-Z-Boy also has been transitioning existing stores. For fiscal 2017, the company completed 23 store projects and ended the year with nine net new stores.

In the company’s earnings release, Kurt Darrow, La-Z-Boy president and CEO, said, “In addition to opening new stores, we are working to upgrade the entire network of stores by remodeling older stores into the new concept design format, which is a more modern format and a better representation of the brand today.

“For fiscal 2018, we are planning for approximately 26 projects to be completed, with seven net new stores projected, and we expect to end the year with about 140 stores in the new concept design format and 354 in total.”
