Giant Food Stores’ roster of beer and wine eateries across Pennsylvania continues to expand, with two Dauphin County locations among four recently opened.
The Cumberland-County based chain says it has added the amenities to stores on Hershey Road in Hummelstown and East Main Street in Middletown, as well as at locations in Lehighton and Philadelphia.
Each new eatery seats 30, and is open Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
In addition to eat-in and take-out food, customers can choose from a selection of domestic and international wines as well as craft, domestic and imported beers.
With the new eateries, a total of 37 stores under the Giant and Martin’s banners now sell beer and wine in Pennsylvania.
A 2010 state Supreme Court ruling upheld supermarkets’ right to sell beer, including takeout, at in-store restaurants that meet certain specifications. Giant, Weis and Wegmans were among the chains that soon began exercising that right.
Giant’s first midstate location to offer beer was its Market Street store in York, in March 2012, becoming the chain’s third beer garden in Pennsylvania.
Giant’s Mechanicsburg store on the Carlisle Pike was the chain’s first location to add wine to its beer garden back in September, following passage of a state liquor reform bill in August.
Wine sales throughout the region have been expanding steadily since.
